Each One Be Baptized
“Those who received his word were baptized” (Acts 2:41)
Now that we are born again, confessing to being a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is very important to know the steps to follow. The divine task of making disciples belongs to God, He is the one who makes us born into a new life, but what about us? What do we need to do after being born again?
I suggest that the life of a Christian is very simple because it basically consists of learning the principles of how Jesus Christ lived His life in order to know how to live ours. I'm not saying it's easy, but it's simple, although sometimes we complicate it needlessly. I can sum it up with this sentence: walking as He walked must be our greatest desire.
In the Bible, we find the words and deeds of the Lord Jesus Christ. We need to learn everything He said and did while He was living on earth and apply it to our lives, following His example. If the teacher walked a certain path, shouldn't His followers walk the same?
The great commission of Jesus Christ says that we are to "go and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19).
We understand that a disciple's first step must be water baptism.
It is a very important step in the life of the Christian as it is the beginning of true discipleship. The Bible clearly establishes water baptism as an ordinance that the Christian must fulfill if it is in his/her power to do so. The word ordinance means an external symbolic rite or observation ordained by Christ Jesus, which presents essential Christian truths. One must first believe and then be baptized in water by choice. The Lord Jesus Christ Himself left us this example by being baptized by His own choice, in the waters of the Jordan River, publicly. (Matthew 3:13-17).
Christian churches observe water baptism as follows. The way they baptize is by immersion. The word used in Greek, the original language of the New Testament, for Baptism means to immerse. This is the way Christ was baptized; therefore, His example is followed. The formula used is "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," taken directly from the great commission of Jesus Christ.
If you haven't already, I suggest you do it as soon as possible. Don't delay any longer. When you are going to be baptized in water, I want you to enter with the full expectation that God will pour out more of His grace on your life.
This act of obedience, public confession of faith, and identification with Christ (Romans 6:3-5) will provide you with an encounter similar to that of Jesus.
The heavens will open (Spiritual Understanding), the Father will declare that you are His son (Spiritual Relationship), and the Spirit will descend (Spiritual Anointing). (Matthew 3:13-17)
